Make Your Life Easier With These Dog Products
If you’re a dog owner like me, then you have more than likely tried out a plethora of dog products by now – including toys, food, etc. You may have noticed how all the little things add up and are surprised by how much you’ve spent. I actually wrote a post all about the real cost of owning a dog – it’s definitely more than you think!
However, you may not have figured out which products work the best, last the longest, or give you the most bang for your buck. If this sounds like you, you have come to the right place! I have put together a short list of GREAT dog products that we can’t go without in our household. My husband and I have tested out all these products with our yellow lab and have found them to be durable, high quality, and cost efficient. Read on to discover 7 of our household favorites!
What dog doesn’t like a good ball? A good fetching ball is SO important for us with our dog, Odin. We need a ball that is incredibly durable and can withstand Odin’s constant fetching for 20+ minutes a day. He wears through tennis balls so easily, plus they are gooey and gross with his slobber only a few minutes into playtime. So we upgraded to this Leeaw rubber ball. It is SUPER durable! We have been using it daily for months now, and it still shows no signs of wear. It fits easily into the palm of your hand, which makes it comparable to throwing a tennis ball. Also, clean up is super easy. I just give it a quick rinse once we are done playing to get off the saliva and grass, and it looks like new.
In addition, the rubber “teeth” on the ball give you room to put small treats or pieces of kibble in between the teeth. With food involved, your dog will stay interested in playing with the ball even longer than usual. We have been so impressed with this ball, and I highly recommend it. Odin loves it too!
If your dog prefers a frisbee, here is a great one for you to try out. The Hyperflite Jawz Disc is awesome for playing with your dog or throwing with friends. It is great quality, can fly long distances, and has a solid weight without being too heavy. Not to mention, it’s super tough! Odin prefers his ball now, but when the frisbee was his thing, he would chew hard on this one. Even after playing hard, the disc had no holes and almost no chew marks. It was pretty incredible. When Odin got bored with it, my husband and I would toss it around and really enjoyed it for that purpose as well. So if you want a quality and durable disc, I would definitely recommend this one.
Naturally, chewing is in most every dog’s nature. You need a reliable chew toy that is fun for your dog and doesn’t get torn to shreds after only a few days. In my opinion, the Kong toy is fantastic for almost any dog. They are made from a super tough rubber material that holds up well against even heavy chewers. Not only that, but many of the Kong toys can be stuffed with treats to keep your dog active and engaged. Odin is a voracious chewer, so we got him the Kong Extreme . When I want him to be entertained for longer than usual, I will stuff it with milk bones, add peanut butter and coconut oil, and then freeze it. When I get it out of the freezer, he goes crazy for it! Side note: always make sure that your toys and treats are the right size for your dog!
(This is one of my all time favorite dog products!)
As much as we love owning dogs, one of the downsides is all the hair. Odin is a yellow lab, so he sheds a good bit. Normal brushes just don’t do anything to remove Odin’s short hair, so this deshedding tool has been a lifesaver for us! It has tiny teeth that pick up all of his fine, short hairs. I can fill up a whole grocery bag worth of Odin’s hair after using this grooming tool on him for only about 10 minutes. It’s absolutely incredible, and it has exponentially cut down the amount that I have to vacuum.
Speaking of pet hair, you need a good vacuum that will pick up all that hair on your floors and rugs. After doing quite a bit of research and reading many reviews, we bought the Hoover WindTunnel Pet vacuum. Let me tell you, it has been WONDERFUL. The beater brush picks up all of the dog hair on my rugs, even on the ones with rough material where the hair really likes to stick. It also has a button to turn off the beater brush, so that you can vacuum on floors without it blowing the dirt and hair around. The cord rewind is pretty nice too – I just step on the button, and it winds the cord back on its own. It has been a fantastic purchase, held up well, and is still going strong after using it heavily for about a year now.
Of course the food you choose for your dog is one of your most important decisions when it comes to your pet. For Odin, we tried so many different foods just trying to find one that didn’t upset his stomach. For the longest time, our poor little guy had loose stool (eww) pretty much every time he went to the bathroom. It was awful for him and awful for us since we lived in an apartment complex and had to pick it up. After searching and searching for the perfect food, we finally stumbled upon NutriSource dog food.
Not only did NutriSource instantly settle Odin’s bowel problems, but he hasn’t had any problems since being on this food! We’ve also noticed that he sheds less and everyone always remarks on how soft his coat is. The only con to this food is that it is a premium food and costs around $55 to feed Odin for a month – keep in mind he is 65 pounds! However, if your dog has similar bowel issues then it might be worth it to you to pay a higher price to fix the problem – it was definitely worth it for us.
In addition, NutriSource products are covered by a 100% satisfaction guarantee when bought from an authorized retailer. This means that if you are unhappy with the food for any reason, they will refund your purchase. If you are interested in NutriSource you can find an authorized retailer here.
Flea & Tick Prevention
Last but not least, you can’t forget about flea & tick prevention! No one wants fleas and ticks on their dog, but you also don’t want to pay high prices for flea and tick prevention meds. Applying the tube medicines just isn’t fun or efficient either. So I recommend the Seresto collar for your dog to prevent fleas and ticks. Simply put the collar on your dog, and your dog is protected for up to 8 months! Not only is it super easy and hassle free, but it works. The Seresto collar is a great product for dogs and cats alike. Don’t waste your money on sub-par flea and tick prevention! Also, no vet prescription is needed to purchase Seresto.
So many collars; so little time! It’s really hard to go wrong when buying a collar for your dog, but everyone has their preferences. If you’re looking for a collar that is durable and high quality, I suggest the Magnus Leather collar. It has a name plate on the top of the collar so that your dog’s name and your contact information can be easily seen without having to fiddle with a tag. Speaking of tags, this collar eliminates that metal “tinking” sound of the name tag flopping around. It’s just a nice collar that will last your dog awhile.
